About our dances

Among our most popular programs at the Community Center are our Middle School Dances. Open to children in grades 6, 7, and 8, these dances provide students from Ford Middle School and St. Francis Xavier School the opportunity to socialize with their friends in a festive environment. DJ Chris Oliver provides all of the current popular music as the kids dance the night away.

With any large gathering of teenagers, there is a need for rules, and our dances are no exception. We have been fortunate over the years to have had great kids come through our doors. Part of the reason for that is that the kids all know that when problems arise, they are handled swiftly by our volunteers. The result is a relationship of mutual respect between the Community Center and the kids who attend the dances.

Parents are reminded that since we are forced to limit the number of young people we can let into the dances, they should not leave their children until they are sure they have been admitted into the dance. Doors do not open until 6:00, and we only allow those students who are Acushnet residents in grades 6-8 or attending St. Francis Xavier School in grades 6-8 to attend our dances. We will call the parents of anyone who violates our rules and have them come for their child. We do not allow anyone to leave the Community Center before the dance is over unless a parent comes into the building for them. We strictly enforce our rules to insure the safety of everyone and to make the dances enjoyable for all.

We do our best to provide a fun and safe environment for everyone. With the cooperation of our chaperones, parents, and the kids themselves, the Middle School Dances will continue to thrive for many years to come.
